Documents for a Lithuania visa application
The documents typically needed for Lithuania's national long-stay (D) visa and temporary residence permit, submitted through the MIGRIS system.
Important
For stays in Lithuania longer than 90 days you apply either for a national (D) visa or a temporary residence permit (TRP), both handled by Lithuania's Migration Department. Every application begins in the Lithuanian Migration Information System (MIGRIS), where you complete and submit the electronic application before attending in person to lodge your documents and biometrics.
The exact document set depends on your legal ground for staying (work, study, family, business, and so on), but a common core of documents applies to almost all national long-stay applications. Always check the requirements for your specific ground in MIGRIS or with the Migration Department before you apply.
Core documents most applicants need
- A completed application submitted electronically via MIGRIS (for a national visa the inviting party usually first submits a mediation letter/invitation in MIGRIS).
- A valid travel document (passport) that was issued within the last 10 years and has at least two blank pages.
- For a national visa, the passport's validity must be at least 3 months longer than the validity of the visa applied for.
- A recent passport-standard photograph meeting the specification.
- Health insurance valid for the intended stay.
- Documents proving the purpose/ground of stay (e.g. employment, admission to studies, family relationship, business).
- Evidence of sufficient means of subsistence and of lawful accommodation in Lithuania.
Proof of accommodation
When completing the MIGRIS application you may attach documents confirming your right to reside in the dwelling, such as the owner's or co-owner's consent. If the dwelling is owned by you, or a lease is registered with the State Enterprise Centre of Registers, those confirming documents do not need to be submitted separately to the Migration Department.
Lodging the originals
After submitting the application electronically, you must attend the external service provider's office (abroad) or a Migration Department division (in Lithuania) with the original documents so your identity can be verified and biometric data taken.
