Processing times for a Lithuania visa application
How long Lithuania's Migration Department takes to decide national (D) visa and temporary residence permit applications.
Important
Processing times in Lithuania depend on whether you apply for a national (D) visa or a temporary residence permit, and on whether you choose general or urgent examination. The countdown starts from the date a complete application is received, and deadlines can be extended if additional checks or documents are needed.
Because volumes and individual circumstances vary, treat the figures below as the statutory maximums rather than a guaranteed turnaround, and apply well before you need to travel or before your current status expires.
National (D) visa
- A decision is generally made within 15 calendar days of receiving the application.
- The examination period can be extended, lasting up to 45 calendar days in total.
Temporary residence permit
- General procedure: examined within 2 months (in practice quoted as 1 to 3 months depending on the case).
- Urgent procedure: examined within 1 month.
- To renew/change a permit, submit the request up to 4 months before the current permit expires.
