Lithuania's national long-stay routes are for people who want to stay in the country for more than 90 days for a defined lawful purpose. The national (D) visa is typically the shorter-term route (valid for up to 12 months), while a temporary residence permit is the route for settling for a longer, renewable period. Both require a specific ground for stay recognised in Lithuanian law.
Eligibility is assessed by the Migration Department against your declared purpose, your supporting evidence, your means of subsistence, your accommodation, and standard security/immigration checks. The main routes are ground-based rather than points-based.

- Employment / highly qualified work in Lithuania.
- Studies at a Lithuanian educational institution.
- Family reunification with a resident.
- Business / self-employment or lawful economic activity.
- Other grounds recognised under the Law on the Legal Status of Aliens.

- A valid travel document and a genuine, evidenced purpose of stay.
- Sufficient means of subsistence for the intended period.
- A place to live (accommodation) in Lithuania.
- Health insurance valid for the stay.
