How to apply for FSM entry permits and visas
How entry to the Federated States of Micronesia works, when a permit is needed, and the general steps for applying before travel or on arrival.
Important
The Federated States of Micronesia does not operate a conventional visa-sticker system for most travellers. No entry permit is required for a visit of 30 days or less; a permit is needed only for stays that exceed the permitted visa-free period for your nationality, or where the purpose of travel is employment, study, investment or family settlement.
Where a permit is required, applications are made to the FSM Division of Immigration in the Department of Justice, or through an FSM diplomatic mission or embassy abroad. Employment and investor-related permits generally require the FSM-based employer or business to submit the application on the applicant's behalf, together with the supporting authorisations required under the Immigration Act (Title 50) and the labour law (Title 51).
Because the FSM is a federation of four states (Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei and Yap), some steps — particularly for work permits — are handled by the immigration and labour office of the state where the activity will take place. Confirm the current forms, fees and submission point with the Division of Immigration or the relevant FSM embassy before you travel.
