How to apply for a Uruguayan visa or residence

The two main tracks: consular entry visas applied for abroad, and residence permits applied for online through Uruguay's national migration system.

Uruguay separates two processes. Entry visas (tourist, business, transit) are requested at a Uruguayan consulate abroad before you travel; the consulate forwards the file to the Dirección Nacional de Migración for authorisation and then stamps the visa in your passport. Residence permits (temporary, permanent, MERCOSUR and family link) are applied for online through the government portal and finalised at a migration office inside Uruguay.

For residence, applicants complete a web form and upload documents in digital format (JPG, JPEG, PNG or PDF). If the file is accepted, the applicant receives an email with a link to book a day and time at their chosen migration office to present original documents.

Digital nomads use a dedicated online track for the Provisional Identity Card (Hoja de Identidad Provisoria - Nómada Digital) rather than the standard residence form.
