How to Apply for a Ukrainian Visa or Residence Permit
The route to Ukraine depends on your nationality and purpose: visa-free entry, an electronic visa, a consular visa (C, D or B), and then, for long stays, a residence permit obtained inside Ukraine.
Important
Ukraine operates a tiered entry system. Many nationalities can enter without a visa for short visits; certain visa-required nationalities can apply for an electronic visa online; everyone else applies for a short-term (C), long-term (D) or transit (B) visa at a Ukrainian embassy or consulate. Visas are issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and its diplomatic missions abroad.
For stays longer than the short-stay limit, the visa is only the entry document. Holders of a long-term (D) visa must, while in Ukraine, apply to a territorial office of the State Migration Service of Ukraine for a temporary or permanent residence permit, which is the document that authorises continued legal residence.
Electronic visa applications are made through the official portal evisa.mfa.gov.ua. Consular visa and residence-permit procedures are set out on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and State Migration Service websites; always confirm the current procedure and required documents there before applying.
