Luxembourg Student Residence Permit

Who it's for

Non-EU/EEA nationals accepted onto a full-time programme leading to an academic degree at a recognised higher-education institution in Luxembourg.

Requirements

• Enrolment in a recognised higher-education establishment for a full study cycle
• Valid passport
• Proof of sufficient resources (at least 80% of the social inclusion income)
• Health insurance cover
• Criminal record extract or affidavit
• Parental authorisation if under 18

What you can do

• Study full-time toward a recognised academic degree
• Work up to an average of 15 hours per week outside study time
• Take on holiday employment, in-institution research or University assistant roles without the 15-hour cap
• Renew the permit for each year of the study cycle

How to apply

Before travel, submit the temporary authorisation to stay application to the General Department of Immigration (processing typically around 60 days).

Visa nationals then request a Type D long-stay visa.

After arrival, declare your arrival at the commune within 3 days and complete the medical examination and TB screening.

Apply for the residence permit within 3 months of entry; renewals are filed 2 months before expiry.
