Who it's for

Self-sufficient non-EU nationals who can support themselves from their own resources or a pension without recourse to the Luxembourg welfare system, and certain people with personal/family ties to a Luxembourg resident who fall outside formal family reunification.

Requirements

  • Valid passport
  • Proof of stable, regular and sufficient resources (pension, income from EU/Schengen activity, or other own resources)
  • Resources at least equal to the applicable reference amount (social inclusion income / minimum wage benchmark)
  • Health insurance cover
  • Temporary authorisation to stay granted before entry

What you can do

  • Reside in Luxembourg supported by your own means
  • Undertake ancillary employment where the permit's observation allows
  • Renew the permit while continuing to meet the resource requirement (up to 3 years each time)

How to apply

Before travel, submit the temporary authorisation to stay application to the General Department of Immigration with proof of resources and health insurance.

Visa nationals then obtain a Type D long-stay visa.

After arrival, apply for the residence permit within 3 months, online via MyGuichet.lu or by post, paying the EUR 80 fee.
