Luxembourg Long-Term Resident Status

Who it's for

Third-country nationals who have lawfully and continuously resided in Luxembourg for five years and can support themselves. Seasonal workers, students, seconded/transferred workers, and holders of temporary or limited-validity permits are not eligible.

Requirements

• 5 years' continuous lawful residence (limited absences permitted)
• Valid passport
• Stable, regular and sufficient resources without recourse to REVIS social welfare
• Proof of suitable housing
• Health insurance for the applicant and dependants
• No threat to public order or security
• Evidence of integration (e.g. language courses, community involvement)

What you can do

• Reside long-term in Luxembourg on a 5-year renewable permit
• Work in any sector and for any employer without a separate work permit
• Enjoy enhanced protection against expulsion and easier renewal
• Move toward naturalisation where eligibility conditions are met

How to apply

Apply to the General Department of Immigration, online via MyGuichet.lu or by post using the official forms.

Provide financial proof covering the 5-year period, housing documentation, social security and health insurance evidence, a criminal record extract and integration evidence.

Attend a biometric appointment; the ministry decides within a maximum of six months (no response means the application is refused).
