Luxembourg Family Reunification

Who it's for

Spouses, registered partners (18+) and minor children of a third-country national lawfully resident in Luxembourg. Dependent parents or dependent adult children may qualify where the sponsor has been lawfully resident for at least 12 months.

Requirements

• Sponsor lawfully resident in Luxembourg with a qualifying permit
• Proof of stable, regular and sufficient resources (12-month history)
• Suitable housing meeting the habitability standards (12 m² first person, 9 m² per additional person)
• Health insurance covering the sponsor and family members
• Valid passports for the family members
• 12 months' prior residence where bringing parents or adult children

What you can do

• Reside in Luxembourg with the sponsoring family member
• Work as an employee or in self-employment
• Renew the permit while the conditions remain met
• Progress toward independent residence and long-term status over time

How to apply

Before the family member's entry, the sponsor submits the temporary authorisation to stay application to the General Department of Immigration, with proof of resources, housing and health insurance.

Visa nationals then obtain a Type D long-stay visa.

After arrival, the family member makes the declaration of arrival within 3 days, undergoes the medical examination and TB screening, and applies for the residence permit within 3 months.
