Who it's for

The spouse and minor children (and, in defined cases, other dependent family members) of a Lithuanian citizen or of a non-EU national who already holds a Lithuanian residence permit.

Requirements

  • Documented family relationship (marriage certificate, birth certificates)
  • A sponsor who is a Lithuanian citizen or a legally resident foreigner
  • For foreign-resident sponsors: qualifying prior residence in Lithuania (waived for EU Blue Card holders)
  • Adequate accommodation meeting living-space standards
  • Stable and sufficient means of subsistence for all family members
  • Valid passports and health insurance
  • Clean criminal record for first-time adult applicants

What you can do

  • Live in Lithuania with the sponsoring family member
  • Access work rights, generally in line with the sponsor's status and the law
  • Enrol children in school
  • Renew the permit as the family relationship and conditions continue
  • Accumulate residence toward permanent residence and, later, citizenship

How to apply

Confirm the sponsor meets the accommodation, income and (where relevant) prior-residence conditions.

File the family-reunification TRP application in MIGRIS at migracija.lt, then attend in person for biometrics and to submit legalised/translated civil-status documents at a Migration Department division or VFS Global centre abroad.

The standard decision period is up to about 4 months (roughly 2 months expedited). Permits are renewed periodically while the family relationship persists.

Documents

  • Completed MIGRIS application
  • Valid passport
  • Marriage certificate and/or children's birth certificates (legalised/translated)
  • Proof of the sponsor's status (citizenship or residence permit)
  • Proof of adequate accommodation
  • Evidence of stable, sufficient income
  • Health insurance and paid state fee

Frequently asked questions

  • A foreign-resident sponsor generally must have lived in Lithuania for a qualifying period on a valid permit before reuniting family. EU Blue Card holders are exempt and their families can join immediately.
