Documents for a Hungary visa application

A Hungary national application needs a completed form, photo, and enclosures proving purpose, subsistence, accommodation, health cover and exit.

Important

This information is for general guidance only. Meeting the requirements does not guarantee your application will be approved.

For a Hungary national long-stay visa or residence permit application you must submit a completed application form together with mandatory enclosures that prove you meet each entry and residence condition. Enclosures must be completed in full before submission; an incomplete application is not deemed received until the missing items and biometrics are supplied.

The exact enclosures depend on the permit type, but the categories below are common across national routes. Check the relevant OIF factsheet for the additional documents specific to your purpose of stay.

Typically required documents

  • Completed application form for the relevant permit type
  • One facial photograph
  • A valid travel document (passport)
  • Documents substantiating the purpose of residence (e.g. employment, admission, family relationship)
  • Proof of subsistence (bank statements or certificates, employer/tax-authority income documents, or a notarised family declaration with proof of means)
  • Proof of accommodation (ownership, lease, courtesy-use declaration or reservation)
  • Proof of comprehensive health insurance or financial means for healthcare
  • Evidence of the means to exit Hungary (travel ticket/funds or own transport)

Good to know

  • For some routes the travel document's remaining validity must exceed a set minimum (e.g. it may not expire in less than one year from submission for the temporary residence permit)
  • Family relationship must be evidenced by birth, marriage or adoption certificates where relevant
  • Requirements vary by permit type — always confirm on the matching OIF factsheet
