After you arrive in Hungary
A Type D visa lets you enter Hungary to collect your residence permit; you must attend the OIF, register your accommodation and meet ongoing reporting duties.
Important
The Type D visa is the entry document that lets you travel to Hungary to take up your residence permit. Once in Hungary you complete the process with the OIF: you collect the residence permit and register your place of accommodation. From then on you must keep the authority informed of changes to your circumstances.
Accommodation notification and other reporting are done electronically through the Enter Hungary platform after registration; you receive an accommodation certificate to keep with you as proof.
First steps after entry
- The Type D visa is a single-entry visa authorising a stay of up to 30 days and valid for 3 months, issued to let you receive your residence permit
- Collect your residence permit (documents are delivered by post to the address given, or collected in person where required)
- Notify the OIF regional directorate of your place of accommodation and obtain the accommodation certificate
Ongoing reporting obligations
- Report any change of accommodation within 3 days to the competent regional directorate
- Report loss or theft of your travel document or residence permit, and apply for a substitute via Enter Hungary
- Notify changes to employment (and births in Hungary) as set out in the reporting-obligations rules
