Who it's for

Non-EU/EEA/Swiss entrepreneurs with an innovative, scalable business idea they intend to build in Denmark. It is not open to EU citizens (who have free movement) and is not intended for traditional/independent trades.

Requirements

  • An innovative growth-oriented business plan approved by the Danish Business Authority's expert panel
  • Genuine intention to establish and actively run the company in Denmark
  • Documented funds to support yourself (and any family) during the first year
  • The business must be independent — you cannot be an ordinary employee of it in a way that circumvents work-permit rules

What you can do

  • Live in Denmark and build and operate your start-up
  • Bring accompanying family who receive their own permits
  • Extend the permit as the business develops
  • Accrue time toward permanent residence

How to apply

First submit your business plan for assessment by the expert panel (via the Start-up Denmark programme / Danish Business Authority). If approved, apply to SIRI through nyidanmark.dk for the residence permit, documenting your self-support funds. A fee applies and biometrics are recorded.

Frequently asked questions

  • No. Start-up Denmark is for innovative, scalable growth companies. Traditional independent businesses (e.g. a restaurant or retail shop) do not qualify.
