Who it's for
Spouses, registered partners or long-term cohabiting partners of a person legally settled in Denmark who wants their partner to join them. Conditions vary with the sponsor's status; refugees' family members face a partly different (more limited) set of conditions.
Requirements
- A genuine marriage, registered partnership or established cohabitation (not a sham/forced relationship)
- Both partners generally aged 24 or over
- The couple's combined attachment to Denmark being at least as strong as to any other country (in applicable cases)
- Meeting the required number of integration conditions, including the mandatory Danish-language requirement for the sponsor
- Sponsor meeting employment, income and financial-collateral requirements
- Suitable housing, subject to restrictions on designated residential areas
What you can do
- Live in Denmark with your spouse/partner
- Work in Denmark once the permit is granted
- Extend the permit and, in time, apply for permanent residence if conditions are met
- Include the family's children under the linked child-reunification rules
How to apply
Apply to SIRI via nyidanmark.dk. The sponsor typically lodges financial collateral with the municipality and documents housing and income. Biometrics are recorded and a fee is paid.
