How to apply for a Jamaican visa or permit
An overview of where and how to lodge immigration applications in Jamaica, from entry visas to work permits and citizenship.
Important
Jamaica does not operate a single online visa portal. Entry visas for nationals who need one are normally applied for through a Jamaican embassy, high commission or consular office abroad before travel. On arrival, an Immigration Officer at the port of entry decides on admission and the length of stay granted, regardless of whether a visa was required.
Once in Jamaica, extensions of stay, permanent residence and citizenship applications are handled by the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA). Work permits are a separate process run by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MLSS), and applications must be lodged by the prospective employer, contractor, legal representative, or by JAMPRO for investors — not by the individual worker directly.
Where applications are submitted
- Entry visas: Jamaican embassy, high commission or consulate abroad
- Extensions of stay: PICA immigration offices in Jamaica
- Work permits: Ministry of Labour and Social Security, Work Permit Department, 1F North Street, Kingston (or parish offices)
- Citizenship: PICA, 8 Waterloo Road, Kingston 10, or a Jamaican mission abroad
