How Caribbean Community nationals in skilled categories can live and work in Jamaica without a standard work permit.

As a member of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Jamaica participates in the free movement of skilled nationals. Qualifying CARICOM nationals — including university graduates, nurses, teachers, artisans holding a Caribbean Vocational Qualification, and other designated categories — can obtain a CARICOM Skills Certificate (Certificate of Recognition of CARICOM Skills Qualification) that allows them to work without a conventional work permit.

The certificate is administered by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. Fees are charged for the application and issue of the certificate.

  • University graduates
  • Registered nurses
  • Teachers
  • Artisans with a Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ)
  • Other designated skilled categories (e.g. certain security officers, media workers, sportspersons, musicians)
