Documents you may need

  • Copy of the passport (pensioner six months+; rentista at least 18 months)
  • Residence Visa (RS)
  • Pensioner: certification from the foreign government body, official body or private company paying the pension, stating your details, length of service, position held and pension amount — translated into Spanish and apostilled or legalised
  • Rentista: bank certification and six months of account movements from a Dominican financial institution receiving the income, plus evidence the income has been received and spent in the country
  • Four recent 2x2 photographs — two front, two right profile, white background
  • Results of medical examinations from a DGM-authorised institution

How to apply

  • Obtain the Residence Visa (RS) from a Dominican consulate
  • Apply online at personal.migracion.gob.do, uploading scanned documents in JPG format
  • Submit the original notarised, legalised/apostilled documents in person, within 30 days of entering the country
  • Complete the medical examinations at a DGM-authorised institution
  • Renew the residence annually while you continue to meet the income requirement

Frequently asked questions

  • The pensioner (pensionado) category is for people drawing a pension of at least US$1,500 a month from a foreign government body or company. The rentista category is for people with at least US$2,000 a month of stable passive income from a foreign source (not salary), evidenced through a Dominican bank account.
