What is known about how long Dominican visas, residence permits and naturalisation take, and why applicants should plan for variation.
Important
The Dominican authorities do not publish a single fixed processing time covering all routes, and actual timescales depend on the category, the completeness of the file and the consulate or DGM office handling it. Applicants should treat any timeframe as indicative and apply well ahead of intended travel.
For naturalisation, the Ministry of Interior and Police indicates that after the file is reviewed and the applicant passes the Spanish-language knowledge test, the request is sent to the Executive Power, which typically takes at least three months to issue the naturalisation decree.
Residence is built up over time: temporary residence is granted for one year and renewed annually, and an application for permanent residence must be filed thirty days before completing five years of temporary residence. Confirm current expected timescales with the DGM, MIREX or the Ministry of Interior and Police for your specific route.
