Ugandan Visa-Exempt Entry

Who it is for

• Nationals of East African Community partner states (e.g. Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan)
• Nationals of designated COMESA and other listed countries
• Short visits only — exemption does not cover work or long-term residence

What you can do

• Enter Uganda for a short visit without applying for a visa in advance
• Undertake tourism or visiting activities; separate permits are required for work, study or residence

How to apply

No visa application is required if your nationality appears on the current DCIC visa-exempt list. Confirm your status on the official list before travel and carry a passport valid for at least six months plus a Yellow Fever certificate.

Requirements

• Hold a passport from a country on Uganda's official visa-exempt list, valid for at least six months.
• Travel for a permitted purpose — tourism or business — for a stay of no more than three months.
• Carry a valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate, which is checked by border control officers before entry is allowed.
• Be able to satisfy the immigration officer of your reason for travel; entry is granted at the officer's discretion at the port of entry.

Documents you may need

• Passport valid for at least six months from the date of entry
• Valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate
• Evidence of your purpose of visit (e.g. hotel booking, business invitation) if asked by the border officer

How to enter

There is no online application for visa-exempt entry. You present your passport and Yellow Fever certificate to an immigration officer at the port of entry, who admits you for a stay of up to three months.

Confirm your nationality is on the current visa-exempt list before you travel, as Uganda updates the list from time to time. Holders of a Conventional Travel Document (CTD) who are visa-exempt by nationality do not need an online visa either, but should confirm their document meets entry requirements before departure.
