How to Apply for a Uganda Visa or Permit
Every Uganda visa, entry permit and residence application is submitted online through the DCIC e-Immigration System — this guide explains the standard steps.
Important
All persons intending to travel to Uganda for holiday, tourism, business, study, visits or medical treatment (unless visa-exempt) must apply for and obtain their visa online before travelling. Uganda no longer issues visas through paper embassy applications for most travellers; the single official channel is the DCIC e-Immigration System at visas.immigration.go.ug.
The application follows the same broad steps for visas and permits: choose the application type (visa or permit), select the category and sub-category, complete the electronic form, upload the required documents, and submit. The application is then reviewed by an Immigration Officer, and an approval letter is issued electronically for you to present on arrival, where the visa or permit is finalised (with biometric capture for permits).
The DCIC warns travellers to use only the official portal. A number of fake websites imitate the e-visa system; always check that the address is visas.immigration.go.ug before entering any personal or payment details.
The standard steps
- Step 1 — Choose application type (visa or permit) and the correct category/sub-category
- Step 2 — Complete the electronic application form
- Step 3 — Upload supporting documents (photo, passport bio-data page, Yellow Fever certificate, purpose letter, etc.)
- Step 4 — Submit and pay any applicable fee; the application is reviewed by an Immigration Officer
- Step 5 — Download the approval letter and present it on arrival (permits also require reporting for biometric capture)
