Understanding the Suriname online entry fee
Even visa-free travellers must pay an online entry fee before arriving in Suriname — a country-specific rule that catches many visitors out.
Important
Suriname's most distinctive travel rule is that being visa-exempt does not mean paying nothing. Nationals who may travel visa-free for tourism or family visits must still purchase an online entry fee voucher before they arrive. This is separate from the e-tourist card and e-visa, which apply to visa-required nationalities.
The entry fee is paid on the official portal and comes in single-entry and, since 1 May 2025, multiple-entry versions. CARICOM passport holders are exempt. Travellers should carry proof of the paid entry fee when they arrive, and should not confuse the entry fee (for visa-exempt travellers) with the e-tourist card (for visa-required tourists).
Because the categories are easy to mix up, check on the official portal which of the three applies to your passport — entry fee, e-tourist card, or e-visa — before you travel.
