Suriname visa processing times
Online travel documents are processed within a few days; long-stay work and residence applications take considerably longer despite a streamlining reform.
Important
The e-tourist card and e-visa are typically processed within about 72 hours, and the authorities advise applying well ahead of travel (a week or more is commonly recommended). Because tourist cards can no longer be obtained on arrival, travellers should apply in advance.
Long-stay routes take much longer. The Authorization for Temporary Stay (MKV) should be submitted well in advance of the intended travel date. From 1 November 2024 the Government introduced a streamlined process intended to shorten short-stay visa, work and residence permit handling for foreign professionals; permits were reported to be processed in as little as 21 days under the new approach, though actual times vary by case and completeness of documents.
