How to Apply for a Senegal Visa or Residence Permit

Where and how to apply depends on whether you need an entry visa and whether you plan a short visit or a longer stay.

Your first step is to check whether your nationality is exempt from an entry visa for short stays. If it is, you can travel on a valid passport without applying in advance; if it is not, you apply for an entry visa through a Senegalese embassy or consulate before you travel.

For stays longer than three months — for work, study, family or business — you regularise your status after arrival by applying to the Direction de la Police des Étrangers et des Titres de Voyage (DPETV) for a foreigner identity card. Senegal has also announced a reciprocal electronic visa for nationals of countries that require visas from Senegalese citizens, so confirm whether an online application applies to you.
