Appointments and biometrics for a Slovenia visa application

National long-stay visas are applied for in person at a Slovenian mission (sometimes via VFS Global); biometrics include a photo and two fingerprints for the residence card.

A Slovenia national long-stay (Type D) visa is applied for in person at a Slovenian diplomatic mission or consular post in your country of residence. In several countries the mission works through an external service provider (VFS Global) that manages appointment booking and document intake, while the decision remains with the Slovenian mission. As part of the application a photograph is taken (either captured live or provided as a scanned copy), and the mission may call the applicant for an interview.

Biometrics matter most at the residence-card stage. Slovenia issues biometric residence permit cards, so applicants provide a facial image and fingerprints that are stored on the card's chip.

Making the visa appointment

  • Apply in person at the competent Slovenian embassy or consulate (not another Schengen country's mission).
  • Where used, book through the external service provider (VFS Global) that supports the mission.
  • A photograph is taken as a live capture or accepted as a scanned copy per the official checklist.
  • The mission may request an interview or additional documents during processing.

Biometrics for the residence permit card

  • The biometric residence card stores a facial image as the primary biometric and two fingerprints (normally the left and right index fingers) as secondary biometrics, plus a signature.
  • Diplomatic missions or consulates may capture the two fingerprints digitally at the application stage.
  • If fingerprints were not collected beforehand, the applicant is called to the administrative unit to give fingerprints and a digital signature so the card can be produced.
