After you arrive in Slovenia
After entering Slovenia you register your residence at the local administrative unit within eight days and collect your biometric residence permit card.
Important
Once you enter Slovenia on a national long-stay (Type D) visa or after being granted a residence permit, your key first step is registering your residence with the local administrative unit (upravna enota) for the area where you live. If you are already living at an address when you are served your residence permit, residence-registration certificate or long-stay visa, you must register your residence within eight days.
Registration establishes your legal address in Slovenia and is a prerequisite for many everyday matters. Type D visa holders can then apply for a temporary residence permit at the administrative unit, and collect the biometric residence permit card there.
Register your residence
- Register at the administrative unit within eight days of being served your visa, permit or registration certificate (if already at your address).
- Bring a valid identity document with a photograph.
- Bring evidence of your right to reside at the address: proof of ownership, a lease or sublet contract, or the written consent of the owner, co-owners or accommodation manager.
Collect your residence permit card
- The biometric residence permit card is typically collected at the administrative unit for your area.
- If your fingerprints and signature were not captured earlier, you will be asked to provide them so the card can be issued.
