For a Liechtenstein national residence application, the Migration and Passport Office requires the application to be submitted in full, truthfully and in the correct form before residence or employment begins. The precise document set depends on the route (employment, study/training, family reunification, or residence without gainful employment), so applicants should confirm the exact checklist for their category on the relevant llv.li page or with the office directly.

In addition to the permit application itself, third-country nationals generally lodge the entry-visa element through the competent Swiss representation abroad, which forwards the file so that Liechtenstein can authorise entry (see the appointments and after-you-arrive guides).

Common to most routes

  • Valid passport / recognised travel document
  • Completed and signed permit application in the correct form
  • Evidence supporting the purpose of stay (see route-specific items below)

Route-specific evidence

  • Employment: an employment contract and details showing customary local pay and conditions; the employer has its own duties in the procedure
  • Residence without employment: proof of sufficient financial resources so that no social assistance is needed
  • Study/training: proof of the course or training place
  • Family reunification: the relevant civil-status documents (e.g. marriage or birth certificates)

Note on biometrics

  • The biometric residence card itself is produced from data captured in person at the office (facial image, fingerprints, signature) - a separate passport photo is not required for that step
