After you arrive in Liechtenstein
Once your permit is approved you complete the residence formalities and collect a biometric residence card, giving your data in person at the office.
Important
After entry is authorised and you take up residence, the national process moves to the in-country stage handled by the Migration and Passport Office. Residence and any gainful employment may only begin once the permit has actually been granted or the entry visa issued - not while an application is still pending.
The residence permit is evidenced by a biometric residence card. Because the card's facial image, fingerprints and signature are captured in person, an appointment at the office in Vaduz is part of settling in. First steps after arrival
- Confirm your permit is granted / visa issued before starting residence or work
- Attend the office in person so your biometric data can be captured for the residence card

Keeping status valid over time
- Residence permits (B) are time-limited and renewed subject to continuing to meet the conditions
- Permanent residence / settlement (C) can follow after qualifying residence, and may involve integration and German-language expectations
