Processing times for a Liechtenstein application
As a rule, short-term (L) decisions come within two weeks, residence/settlement permits within three months, and other permits within four weeks.
Important
The Migration and Passport Office publishes indicative decision times for national permits. As a rule, applications are decided within two weeks of receipt for short-term residence permits (L), within three months of receipt for residence or settlement permits, and within four weeks for all other permit types.
These timeframes apply once a complete application has been received. Separately, capped residence permits (B) depend on the allocation cycle: applications for residence without gainful employment are decided by the government on a quarterly basis, and demand-driven categories are allocated through the residence-permit draw rather than purely by processing order.
Indicative decision times (from receipt)
- Short-term residence permit (L): about two weeks
- Residence permit or settlement permit: up to three months
- All other permits: about four weeks
What can extend the timeline
- Capped B permits are subject to the allocation draw, so timing depends on the draw cycle
- Non-employment residence applications are decided quarterly by the government
- Incomplete applications, or waiting for visa authorisation abroad, add time
