Who it's for

  • Third-country nationals with a genuine employment relationship with a Hungarian employer
  • Nationals of countries covered by the current eligibility rules (readmission agreement or recognised representation in Hungary)

  • Valid employment contract or preliminary agreement
  • Eligible nationality under the current rules
  • Proof of financial means (bank statements or employer income documents)
  • Proof of accommodation in Hungary
  • Comprehensive health insurance
  • Valid passport and proof of funds for return travel
  • One facial photograph

What you can do

  • Live in Hungary and work for the designated employer
  • Extend once, up to a three-year total
  • Family reunification is generally not available on this route (limited exception for a child born during the permit's validity)

How to apply

Apply from abroad at a Hungarian diplomatic or consular mission, or from inside Hungary via Enter Hungary or a regional directorate if you entered visa-free and are applying for first issuance or an extension (at least 40 days before expiry).

The authority confirms completeness within 21 days and issues a decision within 70 days. Approved overseas applicants receive a single-entry Type D visa to enter and collect the residence permit; the card is delivered to the employer via the Hungarian post.
