Czech Long-term Residence Permit for the Purpose of Studies

Who it's for

Third-country nationals accepted onto an accredited Czech university programme, secondary or higher vocational school, language preparation course, or a recognised exchange or educational programme lasting more than 90 days.

Requirements

• Confirmation of study / enrolment at the institution
• Proof of sufficient funds for the stay
• Proof of accommodation
• Comprehensive medical (travel health) insurance
• Valid travel document
• Criminal record / background documents on request

What you can do

• Reside in Czechia for the duration of your studies
• Work without a separate work permit if studying an accredited higher-education programme (free labour-market access)
• Travel visa-free within the Schengen Area
• Extend the permit while continuing accredited study, and later switch to a job-seeking or business permit after graduating

How to apply

First applications from abroad are filed at a Czech embassy; if already legally in Czechia on a long-term visa or permit, you may file at a Ministry of the Interior office.

Extensions can be filed in person, by post, or by email with a recognised electronic signature. Standard processing is 60 days.
