Processing times for a Czechia long-stay application
The statutory decision periods for Czech national long-term visas and long-term residence permits.
Important
Czech law sets statutory time limits for deciding national long-stay applications. The clock does not run during periods when the proceedings are suspended or where there is another legal ground for the time limit to pause (for example while the authority waits for a requested document or a binding opinion).
Because the statutory period can be paused, applicants should apply well ahead of an intended start date (study term, job start, etc.) and allow extra time beyond the headline figure.
Long-term visa (Type D) decision periods
- General purposes: within 90 days
- Purpose of study: within 60 days
- May be extended to 120 days in individually complex cases requiring further examination
Long-term residence permit decision periods
- Typically within 60 days
- Up to 90 days in especially complicated cases, or where the Ministry of the Interior has asked the Labour Office for a binding opinion
When the clock pauses
- The time limit does not run while proceedings are suspended
- It also pauses where another legal ground applies (for example a request to supplement the application)
