Residence matters for foreign nationals in Czechia are handled by the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic, specifically its Department for Asylum and Migration Policy (Odbor azylové a migrační politiky, OAMP). The OAMP decides on long-term visas, long-term and permanent residence permits, matters concerning EU citizens and their family members, and issues biometric residence cards.
Applications lodged from abroad are received in person at Czech diplomatic missions (embassies and consulates), which fall under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and are then forwarded to the Ministry of the Interior for a decision. The Ministry of the Interior also runs the official Information Portal for Foreigners (ipc.gov.cz) as the central source of guidance.
