Czech Long-term Residence Permit for the Purpose of Seeking Employment or Starting a Business

Who it's for

Recent graduates of accredited Czech university programmes and researchers who have finished their research in Czechia, who need time to find employment or establish a business before committing to a work or business permit.

Requirements

• Currently hold (or recently held) a long-term residence permit for studies and completed an accredited university programme, OR
• Hold a long-term residence permit for scientific research and completed that research
• Valid travel document
• Proof of accommodation
• Medical insurance

What you can do

• Stay in Czechia for up to nine months to look for a job or start a business
• Work, seek work, or run a business with no labour-market restriction
• Move to a business permit at any time before this permit expires, without the usual five-year residence requirement
• Switch to an Employee Card or Blue Card once you have a qualifying job

How to apply

Apply at a Ministry of the Interior office in Czechia, typically while still holding your study or research permit. Because it cannot be extended, plan your transition to a work or business permit within the nine-month window.
