Czech Long-term Residence Permit for the Purpose of Scientific Research

Who it's for

Third-country nationals coming to carry out research at a Czech university, public research institution, or other body accredited to host researchers, on the basis of a hosting (research) agreement.

Requirements

• A hosting agreement with a recognised/accredited research organisation
• A written commitment from the organisation to cover defined costs if the permit expires
• Valid travel document
• Medical insurance (for applications from abroad)
• Criminal record certificate (for applications from abroad)

What you can do

• Reside in Czechia to carry out the research
• Work without an additional work permit (free labour-market access)
• Travel visa-free within the Schengen Area
• Use EU researcher mobility to carry out part of the research in other Member States
• Switch to a seeking-employment/business permit after completing the research

How to apply

Apply in person at a Czech embassy in your home country or a country of long-term residence, or at a Ministry of the Interior office if already legally present in Czechia.

Biometrics are collected before the residence card is issued. Standard processing is 60 days.
