Requirements

  • A hosting agreement with an approved research organisation in Croatia
  • Valid travel document and photograph
  • Proof of sufficient means of subsistence
  • Health insurance valid in Croatia
  • Criminal record certificate (first-time applicants)
  • No entry ban or SIS alert

What you can do

  • Reside in Croatia to carry out the research described in the hosting agreement
  • Bring close family members, who may also apply in-country
  • Renew the permit for the duration of the research project
  • Build toward long-term residence with continuous qualifying stay

How to apply

The researcher applies at a Croatian diplomatic mission/consular post, or — exceptionally — at a police administration/station in Croatia even where a visa would normally be required, on the basis of the hosting agreement.

On approval a biometric residence permit card is issued and the researcher must register their address with the police after arrival.
