Croatian Temporary Stay for Family Reunification

Who it's for

• Spouses and life partners of a Croatian citizen or a legally resident third-country national
• Minor children of the sponsor or spouse/partner
• Other close family members recognised under the Aliens Act (e.g. dependent relatives in defined circumstances)

Requirements

• Proof of the family relationship with the sponsor
• Sponsor's eligible status (citizen, permanent/temporary stay, or protection)
• Where the sponsor is on a work permit, generally at least one year of prior temporary stay
• Valid travel document and photograph
• Proof of health insurance
• Proof of sufficient means of subsistence
• Criminal record certificate from any country of residence of over a year before arrival (first-time applicants)

What you can do

• Live in Croatia with your family member
• Renew the permit as long as the relationship and conditions continue
• Access work rights in the cases provided for by the Aliens Act
• Build toward long-term residence over five years

How to apply

The application is submitted at a Croatian diplomatic mission or consular post; visa-exempt nationals may apply at a police administration or police station in Croatia.

On approval a biometric residence permit card is issued and the family member must register their address with the police after arrival.

• Proof of the sponsor's status in Croatia
