After you arrive in Croatia
After entering on a visa D you must register your address quickly and, within 30 days, report to the police to create your biometric residence permit.
Important
A long-stay visa (visa D) is only your authorisation to enter Croatia — it is not your residence document. Once you arrive, Croatia requires you to register your address and then convert your granted temporary stay into a biometric residence permit through the local police administration.
Registration of your accommodation is time-critical: your accommodation provider must register you, and if they cannot, you must register yourself, within the short deadlines below. Missing the residence-registration step can lead to your temporary stay being withdrawn.
First steps after entry
- Your accommodation provider must register your accommodation within one day of your arrival; if they cannot, you must register within two days of entering Croatia
- Report your temporary residence address at the competent police administration/station within the required timeframe
- Within 30 days from the start of the visa's validity, contact the competent police department to register your residence and create your biometric residence permit
- Temporary stay may be withdrawn if residence is not registered within 30 days, or if the conditions for stay cease
Getting your residence permit
- Attend the police administration to provide biometric data for the biometric residence permit
- Pay the production fee (EUR 31.85 standard, or EUR 59.73 accelerated) and issuance fee (EUR 9.29)
- Temporary stay is granted for up to one year at a time and must be renewed before it expires
