Most short-term visitors need no advance application — a visitor permit is issued free on arrival. Anyone coming to work, study, invest, join family or settle applies in advance for a Temporary Resident Permit using form MPMC100, or for a Permanent Residence Permit using form MPMC105.

Applications are processed at the Immigration Division of the Ministry of the Prime Minister and Cabinet in Apia, and can also be lodged at Samoan diplomatic missions overseas (including New Zealand, Australia, the United States and Belgium). The Immigration Division advises lodging at least 30 days before your intended travel date.

Basic steps

  • Choose the correct form and permit category for your purpose
  • Complete all relevant sections and sign the declaration
  • Attach originals or certified copies of required documents and two recent passport photos of each person
  • Pay the fee in the currency of the country where you lodge, per the approved fee schedule (do not send cash by mail)
  • Lodge at the Immigration Division in Apia or a Samoan mission overseas
