A distinctive feature of Samoa's temporary resident process is the medical and police clearance required for longer stays. A medical report is required for everyone over 16 years of age intending to stay one year or more; it includes a physical examination, blood test and chest x-ray, recorded on forms MPMC102 (examination and blood tests) and MPMC103 (chest x-ray), available from the Immigration Division.

A police report is required for everyone over 18 intending to stay one year or more, obtained from the police authority of every country they have lived in for more than one year in the last five years. Both reports should be lodged with the application, as a missing report will delay the permit decision.
