Most Rwandan visas and permits are applied for online through the Irembo e-government portal, which is the official channel operated with the Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration (DGIE). Applicants create an account, choose the relevant visa or permit service, upload the required documents, and pay the fee before travelling.

For short visits, nationals of all countries can also obtain an entry visa on arrival at Kigali International Airport and at land borders, with fee waivers for many nationalities. Work, study, family and investment permits generally require a decision before or shortly after entry and are supported by an employer, institution, sponsor or business registration.
