How to apply for a Paraguay visa or residence
The overall route from choosing the right category to submitting a visa or residence application in Paraguay.
Important
How you apply for Paraguay depends on whether you need a short-stay visa or a residence permit. Short-stay non-resident visas (tourist, technical and diplomatic/official/courtesy) are handled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), which operates an online application form. Residence categories — temporary, permanent, MERCOSUR, investor and family — are processed by the Dirección Nacional de Migraciones under Law No. 6984/2022.
For a non-resident visa, you complete the MRE 'visas en línea' digital form, upload the documents the system requests, and receive an email confirming receipt. The relevant Paraguayan consulate then reviews the file, may request more documents, and schedules an interview. For residence, you follow the category-specific procedure published by Migraciones and submit the documentary requirements to the Directorate.
If your nationality is visa-exempt you may not need a prior visa at all for tourism; and some nationalities can obtain a visa on arrival at Asunción's international airport. Always check your nationality against the MRE country-by-country requirements before you travel.
