Important

This information is for general guidance only. Meeting the requirements does not guarantee your application will be approved.

Processing times in Paraguay vary by route. For non-resident visas, the timeline includes the online submission, consular review (which may involve a request for further documents), and an interview at the Paraguayan consulate, so applicants should allow time for each step.

For residence, an important feature of the system is that once a temporary residence application is filed the applicant obtains 'precarious resident' status, which already permits them to live, work, study and leave and re-enter the country while the file is being decided. Temporary residence cards are valid up to two years and renewable, and the change to permanent residence must be requested within the three months before the temporary card expires.

Because case-by-case times depend on the category and completeness of documents, confirm the current expected timeline with the issuing consulate or the Dirección Nacional de Migraciones.
