A UK Work Permit, often called a Tier 2 visa, helps non-UK citizens work in the UK for a specific employer. To change jobs, you must apply for a new visa because you can only work for the employer listed on your visa. To apply for a UK Work Permit, you must already have a job offer from a UK employer.

Who may submit an application for one?

An employment offer from a UK business, a current Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) from that employer, and a particular proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English are all needed to be eligible for a UK Work Permit. The best-case scenario is that you also meet a particular pay requirement, which changes based on the position you are looking for.

How do I submit an application?

You must submit an online application and any required paperwork, such as your CoS (Certificate Of Sponsorship), passport, evidence of your English language proficiency, and proof of your financial situation, to be considered for a UK Work Permit. Also, you may be required to provide biometric data, like your fingerprints and a photo, and go to an interview in person at a visa application center.

You can work for the designated employer for five years if awarded a Work Permit. You can bring family members who can work and attend school in the UK, including partners or children.

What advantages come with a work permit?

What types of UK work permits are there?

There are a few types of work permits available, such as:

  • General work visas.
  • Intra-company transfer visas.
  • Visas for sportspeople.

Your job and circumstances will determine the type of visa you should apply for.

How long does it take to get a work permit for the UK?

Depending on the type of visa you’re looking for and the time of year, the processing time for a UK Work Permit application can change. It is recommended to apply as soon as possible and allow several weeks of application processing time. If you are outside the UK, you will typically receive a decision on your visa within three weeks after applying online, proving your identity, and submitting your documents. 8 weeks, if you’re in the United Kingdom.

What happens if your application for a work permit is denied?
