How to apply for a Mozambique visa or travel authorisation
A step-by-step overview of applying online through Mozambique's official eVisa and eTA portal, and when a longer-stay visa is needed instead.
Important
Most short-stay visas and the Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) for Mozambique are applied for online through the official SENAMI portal at evisa.gov.mz. You create an account, choose the category that matches your trip (for example tourism, business, investment or sports and culture), complete the form, upload your documents and pay the fee. Decisions are typically issued within a few business days.
First decide which route you need: nationals of visa-exempt countries may need only an eTA, some travellers apply for a full eVisa, and nationals of certain SADC countries may enter visa-free for short stays. Where available, a border visa can be issued on arrival, but applying online before travel is the more reliable option.
If you plan to work, study or live in Mozambique, a short-stay visa or eTA is not enough. These require a long-stay visa (such as a work, student or residence visa) and, after arrival, registration with SENAMI and a DIRE residence document. Employer-sponsored work routes also need labour authorisation arranged in advance.
