eTA or eVisa: which one you need for Mozambique
A Mozambique-specific guide to the difference between the Electronic Travel Authorisation and a full eVisa, and how visa-free SADC entry fits in.
Important
Mozambique runs two separate online routes for short visits, and using the wrong one can delay your trip. The Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) is for nationals who are already visa-exempt for short stays but must now register online before travel. The eVisa is a full visa for nationals who require a visa to enter — applied for online in categories such as tourism, business, investment and sports and culture.
Separately, nationals of certain SADC member states may enter visa-free for short visits and generally do not need an eTA. None of these short-stay options — visa-free entry, eTA or eVisa — permits work, study or residence, which always require a long-stay visa.
The system was relaunched in February 2026, so the split between eTA-eligible and eVisa nationalities, and the list of visa-free SADC countries, may have changed. Check your nationality on evisa.gov.mz to confirm which route applies before you book travel.
