How your nationality and the purpose of your trip determine whether you need a visa, an eTA, or can enter visa-free.

Whether you need a visa for Mozambique depends on your nationality and why you are travelling. Broadly, travellers fall into three short-stay groups: nationals who need a full visa (applied for online as an eVisa, or in some cases at the border), nationals who are visa-exempt but must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) before travel, and nationals of certain SADC countries who may enter visa-free for short visits.
The visa waiver and eTA routes are for short stays only. Anyone intending to work, study or reside in Mozambique needs the appropriate long-stay visa regardless of nationality, and cannot rely on visa-free entry or an eTA.
Because the eVisa and eTA system was relaunched in February 2026, eligibility lists and requirements have changed. Always check your specific nationality and trip type on the official portal before making travel plans.
