Important
Across most routes you will need a valid passport in good condition. For residence applications, foreign public documents (such as birth, marriage or criminal-record certificates) must be apostilled or legalised and translated into Spanish in line with the Special Law on Migration and Foreigners.
Category-specific documents apply: an enrolment certificate for study, an employer file and MTPS involvement for work, a marriage certificate for spouse-based residence, and an investment-registration certificate for the investor route. Each DGME form lists the exact documents for that category.
