Important

This information is for general guidance only. Meeting the requirements does not guarantee your application will be approved.

Most Burundi visas are applied for online through the Commissariat Général des Migrations (CGM) portal at migration.gov.bi. You create an application, select the visa type that matches your purpose and length of stay, complete the form, upload your documents and pay the applicable fee.

The CGM also operates an airport entry-visa process for arrivals at Bujumbura, and travel-document appointments can be booked through the same portal. Extensions and regularisation of visas obtained at land borders, embassies or the airport are handled in person by the Police de l'Air, des Frontières et des Étrangers (PAFE).

Steps

  • Choose the correct visa type (entry, multiple-entry, transit, stay, establishment, study, permanent resident)
  • Complete the online application on migration.gov.bi and upload documents
  • Pay the fee for the selected visa and validity period
  • Travel with your approval, or obtain the entry visa at the airport
  • Extend or regularise in-country through the PAFE if needed
