How to Apply for a Belize Visa or Permit
An overview of where and how visa and permit applications are made for Belize, from visas obtained abroad to permits handled in-country.
Important
How you apply for entry to Belize depends on your nationality and purpose. Visa-required nationals apply for a visa in advance at a Belizean Embassy or Consulate, while visa-exempt nationals are granted a visitor's permit on arrival at the port of entry.
Permits for staying longer — the Temporary Employment Permit, Student Permit, Visitor's Permit Extension, Dependent Permit and residence — are handled inside Belize. Work permits start at a Labour Department office; student, visitor-extension and dependent permits are processed at the Immigration Office; and permanent residence and citizenship applications go to the Immigration and Nationality Department.
Where to apply
- Visas: Belizean Embassy or Consulate abroad
- Work permits: Labour Department office (then Immigration for issuance)
- Student, visitor-extension and dependent permits: Immigration Office
- Residence and citizenship: Immigration and Nationality Department
